On the same day Bobbi Kristina Brown wrecked her car, her adopted brother, Nick Gordon, was arrested for speeding. Alpharetta, Ga., police nabbed Gordon just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday after he was clocked going 82 mph in a 35 mph zone, according to a press release from the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.

After he was arrested and cited for reckless driving and speeding, Gordon was booked into the North Fulton jail annex before being bonded out. ABCNews was unable to reach Gordon for comment. The 23-year-old was taken into custody because the area where he was found speeding is in “a high vehicular and pedestrian traffic area,” filled with retail stores and restaurants, according to the release obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“In a situation such as this, the department has a duty to take reasonable enforcement action to protect the public,” the release read. Gordon was pulled over while behind the wheel of a grey Camaro. Earlier that day, Brown, 19, escaped injury after losing control of her black Camaro and driving down an embankment. She is the daughter of the late Whitney Houston.

Both incidents occurred days after the pair, who have long kept people guessing about the status of their relationship, appeared to have split.“@REALbkBrown and I are not engaged or dating. Just close like we have always been,” Gordon tweeted Nov. 18. Brown also hinted that any romance was over in a series of cryptic tweets.

Looks like no wedding bells for Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown and Nick Gordon. The pair have long kept people guessing about the status of their relationship, but recently Gordon seemed to make it clear that they are just friends. “@REALbkBrown and I are not engaged or dating. Just close like we have always been,” he tweeted Nov. 18.

Brown also hinted that any romance was over in a series of cryptic tweets.“Who do I trust in this world? Pfft well that’s easy beezie, #Myself,” she wrote Nov. 26. “I guess it’s time 4me2stop depending on anymore. It’s my time2follow what Mom&The Lord put out on this path for me. #Thankful. Mom xxo,” she wrote a day later.

Brown, 19, and her 22-year-old adopted brother have denied engagement rumors since she began sporting her mother’s large sapphire on her left hand. But they haven’t been exactly shy about showing their affection for each other in public and in photos posted on their Twitter accounts. In October, they announced their “engagement” during a sneak peek of their reality show, “The Houstons: On Our Own.”

But Brown’s aunt, Pat Houston said, in October that the pair have nothing more than a “very, very strong friendship. Very strong.” “A lot of teenagers, when they hit 18, they think they’re grown,” Houston said. “They think they know it all, they think they know about relationships. You just have to be there to navigate and guide them.”

It’s been a challenging week for the late singer’s daughter. Just before noon Wednesday, she wrecked her Camaro after losing control of the car and driving down an embankment. Brown crashed into several small trees before the car came to a stop on a public trail.

“She lost control of her vehicle due to speed,” George Gordon, a spokesman for the Alpharetta, Ga., Department of Public Safety told ABCNews.com, adding that drugs or alcohol don’t appear to be involved.
Brown, who was uninjured, was cited for failure to maintain lane and issued a court date.

After the accident she tweeted, “My#PersonalGuardianAngel•• thankumom•miss&loveumre u’lleverkno. NotAScratch&ok ••• Wow,PraiseGod. @nickgordon ••• #SeriousChangeswithinME.”

Kids Hurt, Killed by Restraints at School.

 Seven-year-old Angelika Arndt died in 2006 after being suffocated while in a face-down restraint hold performed by staff members at the Rice Lake Day Treatment Center in Wisconsin, where she received academic assistance and therapy for a variety of psychological and developmental problems.

 
  Christopher Baker, a Kentucky fourth-grader with autism and learning disabilities, was stuffed into a sack resembling a duffle bag and placed in a hallway by a teacher's assistant for misbehaving in class.

  The mother of Lukas Hines, a 10-year-old with autistic characteristics, captured video of her son being manhandled on his school bus in Texas by a bus supervisor who said the child refused to stay in his seat on the bus and was potentially harmful to others.


  The mother of a seven-year-old boy in Phoenix learned her son had been placed in this padded "seclusion room" numerous times from 10 in the morning to 3:30 in the afternoon.

Pictures of the booth were placed on-line by a local mother who called the booth abusive, according to Portland, Oregon ABC affiliate KATU. A local public school official said the booth was not abusive and was used as therapy for children who needed to calm down.


  Cheryl McCollins reached a settlement with the Judge Rotenberg Center in Massachusetts after it shocked her special-needs son Andre 31 times using skin-shock therapy for refusing to remove his coat. Video of the incident was released this year after McCollins fought fora decade to have it shown. The school says the skin-shock therapy can be an effective treatment for extremely troubled students.

  Rep. George Miller, D.-California, has introduced federal legislation that would enact stricter guidelines on the use of physical restraints and seclusion in the nation's public and private schools.

 
  Students with autism and behavioral problems at the Centennial School of Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. described being restrained face down, locked in tiny, cell-like "scream rooms" for hours and tied up with string for misbehaving at their previous schools. Centennial does not use restraints or seclusion to punish or discipline its special needs students.

 
  Jackson Patzer, a second grader at the Centennial School in Bethlehem, Pa., describes being restrained at a previous school after he became rambunctious and punched a teacher. He said the restraints hurt and only made him angrier.

 
   Bobby Mullen, a fourth grader at the Centennial School in Bethlehem, Pa., recalled being pinned to the ground by "a really big man" at his previous school after he had misbehaved. Mullen said being restrained "makes it worse." He likes the problem-solving room at Centennial, where he says he can go to calm down if he's feeling bothered.

 
  Thirteen-year-old Ethan Shumway of Centennial School in Bethlehem, Pa., remembers suffering harsh consequences when he misbehaved or took a break from doing his classwork at other schools. He said he was restrained face-down, where a staff member would sit on top of him making it difficult for him to breathe, and having his hands tied behind his back with string, which left marks around his hands.


 
  Jordan Peterson, an 11-year-old student at Centennial School in Bethlehem, Pa., said she was dragged by the wrists and put in a dark, windowless seclusion room for the full school day at another school. She said it was her punishment for yelling and screaming when she became upset.


  Sixteen-year-old Terrence Jubilee, now a student at the Centennial School in Bethlehem, Pa., described being strapped inside a closet-sized booth for an hour at a previous school, punishment for misbehaving.

 
   Michael Renner-Lewis III, a 15-year-old autistic student, was killed on his first day of high school in 2003 when he was restrained face-down by several staff members at Parchment High School in Michigan after he became agitated following a seizure. His mother, Elizabeth Johnson, sued the school district and settled the case. (Abc news)

NYPD Officer's Act of Kindness Goes Viral on Facebook and Reddit.

A New York Police Department officer's act of kindness has gone viral online thanks to a photo snapped by a passing tourist. Jennifer Foster of Florence, Ariz., was visiting Times Square with her husband on Nov. 14 when she spotted a shoeless man asking for change. Foster is the manager of the Pinal County Sheriff's public safety communications center.

"Right when I was about to approach, one of your officers came up behind him," Foster wrote in a message to the NYPD. "The officer said, 'I have these size 12 boots for you, they are all-weather. Let's put them on and take care of you.' The officer squatted down on the ground and proceeded to put socks and the new boots on this man."

Foster said that the officer did not know she was watching and she took a photo. "I have been in law enforcement for 17 years. I was never so impressed in my life. I did not get the officer's name," Foster wrote. "It is important, I think, for all of us to remember the real reason we are in this line of work. The reminder this officer gave to our profession in his presentation of human kindness has not been lost on myself or any of the Arizona law enforcement officials with whom this story has been shared."The officer has since been identified as Lawrence DePrimo, 25, of Long Island.

DePrimo joined the NYPD in 2010 and lives with his parents. He has been shocked by the attention he has received and did not know about the photo or that it was going to be posted online, DePrimo told the New York Times. "It was freezing out and you could see the blisters on the man's feet," DePrimo told the paper. "I had two pairs of socks and I was still cold."

DePrimo found out that the man, whose name he does not know, wore a size 12 shoe. He went into a Skechers shoes store and bought the all-weather boots for $75. DePrimo said the man was thrilled with the boots and went on his way.

DePrimo told the Times that he has kept the receipt in his vest pocket "to remind me that sometimes people have it worse." When contacted by ABCNews.com, DePrimo said he had to get permission from the NYPD before he could comment on the story.

The NYPD posted the Foster's photo and message on their official Facebook page on Tuesday evening and it was picked up by Reddit. Since then, the Facebook photo has been "liked" over 347,000 times and shared over 94,000 times, turning DePrimo into an Internet hero.

While some of the thousands of comments on Facebook questioned whether the photo was stages, the comments were predominantly in praise of the officer. One commenter wrote, "My eyes stung from the tears as I read this story - so awesome knowing there is still goodness in the world! May only good things come to this angel of an officer!"

"God Bless them both," another person wrote. "We have to take care of each other."

Michael Jackson’s 83-year-old father, Joe Jackson, said he has suffered a stroke. He is being treated at an unspecified hospital in Las Vegas. “I will be fine and I am going home tomorrow,” Jackson told ABC News.
The Jackson family has suffered from other health woes recently.

Matriarch Katherine Jackson’s doctor, in July, recommended she leave Los Angeles because “her health was really bad,” her son, Randy Jackson, told “Good Morning America.”

Former President George H. W. Bush Hospitalized.

Former President George H. W. Bush has been hospitalized in The Methodist Hospital in Houston for the past week with what his staff confirms is bronchitis and a chronic cough.

Jim McGrath, a Bush spokesman, said that the 88-year-old former president has not developed pneumonia or any life-threatening condition and is expected to be released over the coming weekend. Bush is “sitting up, moving and walking as much as he can to help his recovery,” Dr. Amy Mynderse, an internal medicine physician in charge of his care, said in a hospital news release.

“This was never a serious or life-threatening situation,” Mynderse said. “We simply wanted to prevent the progression of the disease into pneumonia, which is possible in any patient at this age.” Mynderse said despite discomfort from the lingering cough, Bush is “definitely in great spirits,” and, “he is happy, joking and definitely getting better.”

His family has said publicly the former president is no longer able to walk unassisted, a frustration for a man who enjoyed an active lifestyle of  golf, fishing, jogging and power walks on the beach near his summer home in Maine.  In Houston, where he and his wife, Barbara Bush, have lived since leaving the White House almost 20 years ago, President Bush has been in and out of the hospital for health concerns and two hip replacement surgeries. In June 2012, Bush reflected on his life and family in an interview with ABC News’ Diane Sawyer.

“I’ve been very blessed, when you look around, compared to … others,” Bush told Sawyer. “But you must feel responsibility to others. You must believe in serving others. I think that’s a fundamental tenet of my life.”

The former president also became emotional last summer in a birthday interview with his granddaughter Jenna, a contributor to NBC’s “Today Show.”  He read a portion of a letter to his family about growing old.
“As the summers finish out, and the seas get a little higher, winds a little colder,” he wrote. “I’ll be making some notes, writing it down lest I forget so I can add to the report on getting older. Who knows, maybe they will come out with a new drug that makes legs bend easier, joints hurt less, drives go farther, memory come roaring back and all fears about falling off fishing rafts go away.”

Arrest in 1993 Disappearance of Florida Girl, Andrea Gail Parsons, 10

Police have arrested a 42-year-old man and charged him with murder in the case of a Florida girl who vanished almost 20 years ago. Andrea Gail Parsons, 10, of Port Salerno, Fla., was last seen on July 11, 1993, shortly after 6 p.m. She had just purchased candy and soda at a grocery store when she waved to a local couple as they drove by on an area street and honked, police said.

Today, Martin County Sheriff's Department officials arrested Chester Duane Price, 42, who recently lived in Haleyville, Ala., and charged him with first-degree murder and kidnapping of a child under the age of 13, after he was indicted by a grand jury.

Price was acquainted with Andrea at the time of her disappearance, and also knew another man police once eyed as a potential suspect, officials told ABC News affiliate WPBF in West Palm Beach, Fla. "The investigation has concluded that Price abducted and killed Andrea Gail Parsons," read a sheriff's department news release. "Tragically, at this time, her body has not been recovered."

The sheriff's department declined to specify what evidence led to Price's arrest for the crime after 19 years or to provide details to ABCNews.com beyond the prepared news release. Reached by phone, a sheriff's department spokeswoman said she did not know whether Price was yet represented by a lawyer.
Price was being held at the Martin County Jail without bond and was scheduled to make his first court appearance via video link at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

In its news release, the sheriff's department cited Price's "extensive criminal history with arrests dating back to 1991" that included arrests for cocaine possession, assault, sale of controlled substance, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and violation of domestic violence injunction. "The resolve to find Andrea and get answers surrounding the circumstances of her disappearance has never wavered as detectives and others assigned have dedicated their careers to piecing this puzzle together," Martin County Sheriff Robert L. Crowder said in a prepared statement. "In 2011, I assigned a team of detectives, several 'fresh sets of eyes,' to begin another review of the high-volume of evidence that had been previously collected in this case."

A flyer dating from the time of Andrea's disappearance, and redistributed by the sheriff's office after the arrest, described her as 4-foot-11 with hazel eyes and brown hair. She was last seen wearing blue jean shorts, a dark shirt and clear plastic sandals, according to the flyer.

The sheriff's department became involved in the case after Andrea's mother, Linda Parsons, returned home from work around 10 p.m. on July 11, 1993, to find her daughter missing and called police, according to the initial sheriff's report.

Yoko Ono Launches John Lennon-Inspired Fashion Line.

Yoko Ono can now add fashion designer to her list of accomplishments.

The 79-year-old author, artist, musician and innovator unveiled her latest fashion campaign with Opening Ceremony, a global clothing brand with collections for women, men and children.
The concept behind Ono’s collection, titled ”Fashions for Men: 1969-2012,” began when she met designer and Opening Ceremony co-founder Umberto Leon three years ago in Tokyo. When Ono presented her idea to Leon, he decided to join her.

This week, Ono launches her limited-edition fashion line, which includes 18 styles with 52 separate pieces. The pieces were inspired by a gift, including a series of drawings and sketches that Ono presented to her late husband, John Lennon, on their wedding anniversary in 1969.

“I was inspired to create ‘Fashions for Men,’ amazed at how my man was looking so great,” Ono said of her 1969 sketches. “I felt it was a pity if we could not make clothes emphasizing his very sexy bod. Lindsay Lohan Charged With Third Degree Assault After NYC Fight

Lindsay Lohan was arrested this morning and charged with third-degree assault after a fight at a nightclub in the Chelsea section of New York City, police said.
The 26-year-old actress was arrested on the misdemeanor charge after she allegedly struck a woman at Club Avenue on 10th Avenue and 17th street at around 4 a.m. this morning. She was taken to New York's 10th precinct and received a desk appearance ticket, police told ABCNews.com. She was seen leaving the courtroom just after 7:30 a.m.
Lohan allegedly assaulted the woman during a dispute that escalated. The actress, a regular at the club, was banned from the establishment earlier this year following an incident in which she Tweeted that Justin Timberlake was seeing another woman at the club when he was dating Jessica Biel, WABC reported.

Thursday's arrest follows Lohan's previous arrest in September outside a nearby nightclub inside the Dream Hotel, when a pedestrian claimed the starlet hit him with her car and did not stop. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office declined to prosecute that case.

In late September Lohan was also involved in a hotel-room quarrel that began over a set of cell phone photos allegedly taken by a part time Congressional aide. After Lohan claimed the aide, Christian LaBella, had assaulted her, he was arrested, but the misdemeanor charges against him were later dropped.

On Sunday Lohan's Lifetime film "Liz & Dick," in which she portrays Elizabeth Taylor, premiered, and was watched by 3.5 million viewers, receiving scathing reviews. The film was positioned as the actress' comeback following years of trouble with the law.

While living in Los Angeles, the actress was incarcerated six times, but spent less than a total of two weeks behind bars. Last year she also spent 35 days under house arrest after pleading no contest to stealing a $2,500 necklace.

In March, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner took Lohan off probation from a 2007 DUI case. Over the past five years, the actress has been in and out of rehab five times as she has battled drug and alcohol problems.

Family Learns of Daughter's Death on Facebook

The parents of a south Georgia college student first learned from Facebook that their daughter had been found dead in a dormitory study room shortly before Thanksgiving. Now, they hope that Facebook and other social media sites can help solve the death of 17-year-old Jasmine Benjamin, which police are investigating as a homicide.

The Valdosta State University freshman was found unresponsive on a study room couch on Nov. 18.
A family friend forwarded the Facebook post about the teen's death to her parents before they were officially notified by authorities, said A. Thomas Stubbs, an attorney for the victim's mother, Judith Brogdon, and her stepfather, James Jackson. But many questions remain unanswered about how she died.
The family has hired a private investigator, and a new Facebook site has been set up in hopes that students and others might share tips.

While some Facebook comments have already been turned over to law enforcement officers, the family hopes friends, classmates or others who noticed suspicious comments will also alert authorities.
"Anything that reveals a little more information than what's publicly known about her death, those are the kind of comments police are looking for as someone who might warrant a closer examination," Stubbs said.
Also of interest are "unusual comments or unusually timed comments about her death," he said.

Police detectives have canvassed dormitories and interviewed several students on the campus, located about 250 miles south of the family's home in Gwinnett County, outside Atlanta. Benjamin wanted to follow the career path of her mother and become a nurse.

Police say they're treating the case as a homicide, though autopsy results are not complete and they can't say for certain whether she was killed. There were no obvious signs of a crime when her body was found, but an autopsy raised questions, authorities have said. "We're providing what resources are necessary to assist Valdosta State University police in solving this crime," Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead said. "The crime lab is expediting evidence from this incident."

Shortly after Benjamin's parents learned of her death from Facebook, Lawrenceville police officers knocked on the doors of the family home to inform them officially that their daughter was dead, Stubbs said.
"As frustrating as that may be for the family to learn that way, they understand it's a different world," Stubbs said.

The family has yet to learn the possible timeframe of when their daughter died, and police have not shared any theories about how she was killed, Stubbs said. "We know that they have looked at the phone records, video records that they can find in the school," he said. Beyond that, they've been going through legal procedures that are required to obtain records from Facebook Inc.

The family hired Martinelli Investigations Inc. of Lawrenceville to assist in the investigation.
Private investigator Robin Martinelli said Wednesday that any video near the scene, even if may seem insignificant, could prove helpful in the investigation. "It wouldn't matter if it was two weeks before, two hours before or 20 minutes before," she said.

Officials at the university say the wiring for a surveillance system in the dormitory where Benjamin died was already installed. Theresa Boyd, director of communications at the school, said the cameras were on backorder and had not yet arrived when Benjamin died.

Suspect in Lottery Winner's Murder Cries During Her Trial.

Doris "Dee Dee" Moore swindled money from Florida lottery winner Abraham Shakespeare, then fatally shot him and buried his body, prosecutor Jay Pruner said Wednesday during opening statements at Moore's trial. Moore, 40, is charged with first-degree murder.

Her defense attorney, Byron Hileman, told jurors in the Tampa courtroom that Moore was innocent, and that the evidence against her was circumstantial. He said that Moore's gun may have been used to shoot Shakespeare, but noted that ballistics tests were incomplete. Moore broke down during Hileman's opening statements.

Prosecutors called several witnesses to the stand, including Chad McConkey, a detective with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Moore's ex-husband, James, who testified that he bought the defendant a backhoe and used it to dig a hole in the backyard of a house she owned.

She asked him to dig the hole and gave him specific instructions, he said, adding that she told him she wanted it to dispose of construction debris from a remodeling project on the house. He told the jury he dug the hole and left. His ex-wife called him a few hours later and had him fill up the hole. He said he didn't pay attention to what was in the hole.

Prosecutors also called Janero Rodreiguez to the stand. He testified that he was hired by Moore to pour a slab of concrete over the same place her ex-husband had dug and filled a hole days earlier.
Shakespeare, of Lakeland, Fla., disappeared in April 2009.

Authorities say that Shakespeare was shot twice in the chest by a .38-caliber pistol sometime in April 2009. He wasn't reported missing until November. His body was found under the slab in the same backyard in January 2010. Public records show the property was owned by a man authorities have identified as Moore's boyfriend.

Shakespeare, 47, made headlines in 2006 when he won $30 million in the Florida lottery, only to be sued the next year by a co-worker who alleged that Shakespeare had stolen the winning tickets from him. A jury sided with Shakespeare in October 2007, and he took home a $17 million lump-sum payout before taxes.
Shakespeare was barely literate. After he received his windfall, he was besieged with requests for money. By 2009, he had used much of his fortune to pay off mortgages for family and friends.

Prosecutors say Moore, 40, befriended Abraham Shakespeare, promising to manage his money and make it last. She allegedly swindled him out of what was left of his winnings before killing him that same year, then tried to cover up the disappearance by trying to make it look as though the man was still alive.

Polk County authorities claim Moore offered someone a $200,000 house in exchange for reporting a false sighting of Shakespeare. She also allegedly sent the victim's son $5,000 in cash for his birthday, and used the victim's cellphone to send text messages purportedly from him.

In February 2009, two months before Shakespeare was last confirmed to have been seen, Moore opened up a limited liability account with his money and gave herself signing authority, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. She spent it on a Corvette, a Hummer and lavish vacations.

Prosecutors are also expected to call Gregory Todd Smith, an informant, to the witness stand. According to investigators, Moore asked for Smith's help to conceal the killing. According to Smith and official documents, Moore asked Smith whether he knew anyone who would take a murder rap for a $50,000 payoff, ABC News affiliate WFTS-TV reported.

Boring Chelsea doing Benitez few favours.

At least Chelsea fans waited until the end of the match to boo last night, and by then they were well within their rights to do so. There was no mass showing of discontent this time when Rafa Benitez made his way to the dugout, none of the personal abuse that marked his first game against Manchester City. Yet Chelsea fans were still pushed to signal their displeasure with the new manager and his team after another wholly unsatisfactory 90 minutes that brought only a 0-0 home draw with Fulham.

The facts - and we know how much Rafa loves facts - make for stark reading. Chelsea have never before gone three games without a goal during the Roman Abramovich era. The last time they had two successive 0-0 draws in the league was September 2004. Just two games into his reign and it appears Benitez has succeeded in one thing that few thought was possible: sucking the joy out of this Chelsea side. Like some kind of Spanish, tactics-obsessed, iPad-wielding Dementor.

It shouldn't be possible to neuter this Chelsea side, not with Eden Hazard, Oscar and Juan Mata lining up in midfield and the notoriously flaky David Luiz at the back. There should be goals all over the place - but chances so far have been at a premium, with just four shots on target across two games under Benitez so far.
Former Real Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano famously said in 2007 that watching Benitez's Liverpool take on Jose Mourinho's Chelsea in a Champions League semi-final was like watching "s*** on a stick".

Well, the current fare is not much better. Perhaps we should not be surprised when a combination of Chelsea and Benitez begins to stink the place out. It is very early in the Benitez reign but it is clear that he has sought to tighten things up: that much was evident when he played Ryan Bertrand ahead of Juan Mata last night, with Oriol Romeu also replacing John Obi Mikel.

A team that played with such freedom at the start of the season under Roberto Di Matteo has been replaced by a more rigid side. Perhaps this will ultimately pay dividends - after all it certainly did for Di Matteo last season as a more negative brand of football following Andre Villas-Boas's departure brought Chelsea the Champions League - but it isn't pretty at the moment.

Early Doors did have to stifle a giggle when hearing their fans sing "We want our Chelsea back" though.
If they meant a Jose Mourinho-era Chelsea then surely that is exactly what they have got: a team that favours caution over enterprise. This is Chelsea's default setting, and both Villas-Boas and Di Matteo paid with their jobs when trying to change it, presumably at the owner's behest. Anyway, it now seems Abramovich has compromised on his dream of creating a Barcelona clone in West London, for now at least.

As Benitez explained prior to last night's game: "I have spent some time with Roman, and we were not talking about the Barcelona style. He wants to see his team play well. We watched the Under-21s yesterday with Michael Emenalo. John Terry and him and we were talking about the opposition players. Roman says he wants to see the team playing well, but not with the Barcelona style. He knows we don't have [Leo] Messi, Xavi, [Andres] Iniesta, players who have been working together for years. We have different players.
"I think we can play attacking and defensive football together. We have to find the balance. We have to give the ball to them to create, that's our main issue - how do we link with them and give them the freedom to perform and do well, but be organised as a team also."

Chelsea have always been a rather unlovable club, but under Di Matteo you could at least admire the way they played. Games like the 3-2 win at home to Shakhtar Donetsk were thrilling displays of attack. After that particular match, games involving Chelsea were averaging 4.05 goals. There was a strong case that Stamford Bridge hosted the most entertaining team in England. No longer.

Just when Chelsea could do with an entertaining team to lift the gloom around the club, they are stuck in a rut. Still, it probably won't matter too much if it brings them renewed success, at least in Abramovich's eyes.
"The main thing is to win games," Benitez said last night. "If we do, we'll be there and we can win competitions. We need to start doing that and the confidence will come back."

With two wins in 10 it is clear that Chelsea do need to find that winning feeling again, but at the moment they are just providing more ammunition for a group of supporters that need little provocation to start booing.

Katy Perry is adding some new scents to her perfume line.
The singer and songwriter is to develop a line of signature scents with beauty company Coty Inc., according to an announcement released Wednesday. Coty will distribute them on a larger scale than the Purr and Meow! perfumes that Perry previously crafted.

The company says Perry's "unique approach to music and life" will drive her inspiration, and move toward "new avenues of scent creation."
Other pop stars to concoct their own fragrances include Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift. Coty's perfume brands include Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs and Playboy.

Navy fires president, provost of grad school

   MSC NEWS-  An investigation found President Daniel Oliver and provost Leonard Ferrari did not comply with federal and naval regulations.

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus has fired the top two administrators of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., for mismanagement and fostering an atmosphere of defying Navy rules and regulations.
The firings of the school's president and provost come after an investigation by the Navy's inspector general. It found that the president, Daniel Oliver, failed to comply with federal and naval regulations, circumvented federal hiring authorities and inappropriately accepted gifts from a private foundation that supports the school.
The investigation also found that the provost, Leonard Ferrari, did not comply with Navy regulations and accepted gifts from the foundation.
According to the IG report, Oliver arranged for an unidentified woman to be hired as a contractor so that she could be paid more money than the school could legitimately offer. The report said Oliver circumvented federal salary limits after the applicant turned down the school's initial salary offer of $162,000, with a recruitment bonus of $25,000, according to the IG report. The offer was the maximum allowed under federal salary caps at that time, in 2009.
The report said Oliver arranged for an existing school contractor — Digital Consulting Services — to hire the woman, for a salary of $275,000, which she accepted.
"We conclude President Oliver's conduct amounts to waste and gross mismanagement," the IG report said.
The report also said that Oliver solicited and accepted gifts from the foundation, including a gas grill and patio furniture for his home on the campus, in violation of Navy procedures. The IG also concluded that both Oliver and Ferrari authorized the foundation to repay themselves, faculty members and staff for expenses — such as luncheons, dinners, small gifts, or wine for a reception — that they knew they could not otherwise use school funding to buy.
Oliver, a retired vice admiral and naval aviator, has held the job since April 2007, and Ferrari has been in place since July 2006.
Mabus has appointed Rear Adm. Jan Tighe to serve as interim school president, and O. Douglas Moses, the current vice provost of academic affairs, will serves as the acting provost. Mabus also has created a working group that will implement the recommendations in the IG report.

A message seeking comment from the school was not immediately returned.

BP suspended from new US gov't contracts.

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration put a temporary stop to new federal contracts with British oil company BP on Wednesday, citing the company's "lack of business integrity" and criminal proceedings stemming from the Deepwater Horizon disaster in 2010.
The action by the Environmental Protection Administration won't affect current contracts, but prevents BP and its affiliates from new government contracts "until the company can provide sufficient evidence to EPA demonstrating that it meets federal business standards," the agency said.
"EPA is taking this action due to BP's lack of business integrity as demonstrated by the company's conduct with regard to the Deepwater Horizon blowout, explosion, oil spill, and response," the agency said in a statement.

In London, BP said it had no immediate comment but expected to make a statement later Wednesday.
The EPA suspensions were standard practice when a criminal case raises responsibility questions about a company. The suspension came the same day two BP rig supervisors and a former executive were scheduled to be arraigned on criminal charges stemming from the deadly explosion and the company's response to the resulting oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
BP announced earlier in November that it will plead guilty to manslaughter, obstruction of Congress and other charges and pay a record $4.5 billion in penalties to resolve a Justice Department probe of the disaster. Attorneys for BP and the Justice Department plan to meet with a federal judge in December to discuss a date for pleading guilty.

It was not immediately clear what new or pending contracts the suspension might affect. In the past, BP has been a major supplier of energy to the U.S. military, and has also provided fuel products and drilling services for other U.S. agencies such as the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.

Man says prayer group leader told him to kill wife.

  A preliminary hearing is set Wednesday in Kansas City, Mo., for Micah Moore in the death of Bethany Deaton.

Less than three months after he stood as a groomsman in the wedding of two friends he had known since college in Texas, Micah Moore walked into a suburban Kansas City police department and unloaded a dark secret: He had taken the woman's life at the request of her new husband, a charismatic prayer group leader.

Police said Bethany Deaton's death initially appeared to be a suicide. Officers found a note and empty bottle of over-the-counter pain medication along with her body in a minivan parked by a lake on Oct. 30. It wasn't until Moore confessed nearly two weeks later that police announced she had been killed. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on a first-degree murder charge Wednesday.

In the criminal complaint filed in support of the charge, police detailed a stunning series of allegations that Moore made as part of his confession. Moore, 23, lived with Deaton and her husband, Tyler, in a communal home shared by male members of their prayer group. He told police that several members had sexually assaulted Bethany Deaton, and they were worried she would tell someone. Moore said that's when Tyler Deaton ordered him to kill Bethany Deaton, according to a criminal complaint.

Tyler Deaton has not been charged in his wife's death. Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said Deaton was under investigation but declined to elaborate. Deaton does not have a listed phone number and did not respond to requests for comment The Associated Press made through Facebook and phone and email messages to his father.

Moore's attorney, Melanie Morgan, declined to comment.

Tyler and Bethany Deaton moved to Kansas City in 2009 from Texas to attend a six-month internship at the non-accredited International House of Prayer University. The two had met as freshmen at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, in 2005, and two years later Tyler started a prayer group, a former longtime member of the group told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he was afraid of retaliation from Tyler Deaton.

Tyler Deaton was listed at one point as a division coordinator for IHOPU's "friendship groups," but the school said that was a mistake. It issued a statement distancing itself from Tyler Deaton after Moore, a student at IHOPU, was arrested. "Since Bethany's death it has come to light that over five years ago, both she and Mr. Moore joined an independent, close-knit, religious group in Georgetown, Texas," the school said in a statement. "This religious group of fewer than 20 people was led by Tyler Deaton. They relocated to Kansas City over the last few years and operated under a veil of secrecy."

IHOPU is the educational arm of International House of Prayer of Kansas City, an evangelical Christian group focused on missions and preparation for the end of time. The Deatons' prayer group had at least two houses, with women living in one and men in another. Bethany Deaton, 27, moved into the men's house with Tyler Deaton after they married in August.

According to the criminal complaint, Moore told police that men in the house began drugging Bethany Deaton and sexually assaulting her soon after she moved in. He said she was seeing a therapist and group members became concerned she would tell the therapist about the assaults. Moore and other men who lived in the house told police that several group members also were having sexual relations with Tyler Deaton, unknown to his wife.

One man, whose name was blacked out of the criminal complaint, told police that Tyler Deaton said after Bethany Deaton died that he had had a dream he killed his wife by suffocating her. Moore told detectives Tyler Deaton instructed him to kill Bethany Deaton because he knew Moore had it in him to do it, and that Moore reported back to Tyler Deaton after she was dead. Moore told police that he had placed a bag over Bethany Deaton's head and held it there until her body shook.

Bus Plows Into NY Home, Killing 6-Year-Old Boy.

A transit bus hit a pedestrian and then slammed into a suburban New York City house, killing a 6-year-old boy who was inside the home. Eleven people on the bus suffered minor injuries.
Police say the Nassau Inter County Express bus plowed into the multi-family home in Hempstead, on Long Island around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Six-year-old David Granados was pronounced dead at a hospital, and police say his 7-year-old brother suffered minor injuries.
There were about 20 people on the bus.
In a separate incident on Long Island, a 35-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a transit bus at around 5 p.m. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other injuries.

Gay Mosque to Open in Paris, Address to Be Secret.

Ludovic Mohammed Zahed is braced for controversy, maybe even worse. A gay Muslim and an expert on the Koran, Zahed plans to open Europe's first gay-friendly mosque in Paris at the end of this month. He calls it a place of shelter as well as a place of worship.
"We need to have a safe space for people who do not feel comfortable and at ease in normal mosques," Zahed told ABC News. "There are transgender people who fear aggression, women who do not want to wear head scarf or sit in the back of the mosque. This project gives hope back to many believers in my community."
"Common prayer, practiced in an egalitarian setting and without any form of gender-based discrimination, is one of the pillars supporting the proposed reforms of our progressive representation of Islam," he said.
"The Unity" mosque will initially operate in a Buddhist temple in a neighborhood in eastern Paris, and will emphasize "accepting everyone as equally God's creation....I hope straight men will pray together with gay men and women, everyone," said Zahed who declines to make public the address of the venue, due to security concerns.
Zahed's mosque will honor some Islamic traditions, like Friday prayers (Jumu'ah), and the Muslim marriage contract (Nikah) to bless same-sex marriage. It will also perform funeral rites (Janazah) for those who have been denied a traditional Islamic funeral based on Sharia law because of their sexual orientation.
"It is a safe place to worship," said Zahed, where no religious questions will go unaddressed. "Our imams will talk on any taboo topic." Zahed will be one of three prayer leaders, along with a female French convert to Islam and another man who is being trained.
"Current Islamic ethics may condemn this sexual orientation," Zahed said, "but in fact nothing in Islam or the Koran forbids homosexuality. Indeed, for centuries, Muslims did not consider homosexuality to be the supreme abomination that they do today."
According to Zahed, renowned Muslim poets wrote odes glorifying handsome boys. Some were interpreted as metaphors for loving God, but some also seem to reference gay intimate relations. Zahed argues that homosexuality became criminalized only under European colonialism.
"From the 10th to the 14th century, Muslim society used to be a far richer mix of the legal, the rational and the mystic," said Zahed. "They looked at sexuality as one aspect of life's many possibilities, and they saw in it the hope for spiritual insight."
"Even if this mosque is newfound freedom," said Nasser, an openly-gay Parisian, "gays will remain in a closet, worried about being ostracized at their local schwarma stand."
While it would be the first gay mosque in Paris, there are believed to be 21 other gay mosques sprinkled through the U.S., Canada and South Africa.
In countries where traditional Islam is dominant, like Egypt and Iran, punishment against homosexual activity, not to mention advocacy for gay rights, is very severe.
Zahed's Parisian mosque will be inspired by the work of Muslims for Progressive Values in North America, who practice common prayer, in an egalitarian setting and without any form of gender-based discrimination.
"We are already working very closely with them. The idea for our Paris mosque comes as a result of our conversations," says Zahed, whose future plans include "a progressive mosque in the UK and then another one in Denmark will follow."
Zahed believes, if the Prophet Mohamad was alive today, he would marry gay couples. He himself is the first gay man to marry partner in a Muslim ceremony in France. He is an Algerian PhD student writing his thesis on Islam and homosexuality, a subject he also addressed in a book "The Koran and the Flesh."
He has experienced anti-gay discrimination from Islamic groups, and Islamophobia from members of the French gay community.
Meanwhile there is a lot of controversy in France regarding both same-sex marriages and Islamic influence and practices. Ten days ago, tens of thousands protesters took to the streets against government's plan to legalize same-sex marriage, while several weeks ago, right wing protesters stormed an unfinished mosque to show disapproval of France's large community of Muslim immigrants.

Eric Idogun Gives Support in Bayelsa.

After the horrific flood disaster that sacked various communities in the regions of the country, the victims of the devastating incident may not have recovered from the shock, but to ensure that the Bayelsa State flood victims live their normal lives, the Chief Executive Officer of Pepperoni Foods Limited, Mr. Eric Idogun delivered relief materials to the displaced persons.

He said that the donation of the relief materials is part of the company’s robust Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, which has earned it local and international recognitions in the past.

Idogun whom one of his outlets in Yenagoa was sitting on floodwater said his firm could not be deterred by its share of the national plight because humanitarian service is the most critical peg of his business orientation.

Idogun said the gesture was extended to Bayelsa because, according to him, that was where Pepperoni started its business some years ago. Besides, it still plays a key role in the growth of the business in terms volume of profit. We are on ground in the state, we saw what happened and felt the pains of the people. We could not have sent relief materials to the United States that is affected by Hurricane Sandy. It is a natural feeling; I didn’t grow up in Bayelsa but we see the people on daily basis.”

Idogun said the company took up the initiative even though it was affected because CSR is critical to its operations.
“We are in business to make profit. That is what most people think, but our principal guideline is that we are in business for the good of the society. We want to make profit; but we also want to make the immediate communities feel good about our presence. We don’t want to take millions of naira away while they wreck away in pains,” Idogun said.  

He said the company would continue to build on its CSR programme, as there is no end to humanitarian service.
The items donated were bags of rice, bags of beans, garri, yams, cartons of water, tinned tomatoes, soaps, disinfectants, beverages and bread. Others were mosquito nets, toiletries, mattresses, blankets and pillows.

Presenting the items, Bayelsa Area Manager of Pepperoni Foods Limited, Mr. Emmanuel Essiet, noted that the company was concerned about the wellbeing of its host communities, hence the decision to intervene in their predicament. 

He said the gesture was to help reduce the plight of the displaced persons, adding that it was particularly painful for the management and staff of the company seeing homes and businesses of residents of a state they regard as “home” being ravaged by flood.

While receiving the gifts, Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Edmund Allison-Obuh, said the items would go a long way to cushion the effect of the disaster and called on other corporate organisations within and outside the state to emulate Pepperoni.

He said it was the responsibility all citizens to intervene and support the government in its effort to find a long-term solution to the disaster. He also commended the company for its prompt response to the plight of the victims.

The Federal Government Tuesday sacked the Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Ms. Bolanle Onagoruwa, as well as Dr. Bashir Gwandu as the Executive Commissioner in charge of the Engineering and Technology Standards in the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).  Although no reason was given for her removal, THISDAY learnt that it might not be unconnected with the call by the Senate for her removal several months ago.

In her place, the Federal Government directed the most senior director in the BPE, Mr. Benjamin Ezra Dikki, to take over the affairs of the privatisation agency in an acting capacity. Earlier this year, the Senate had adopted the report of its Ad Hoc Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, which had recommended that Onagoruwa be relieved of her position for alleged gross incompetence, and the illegal and fraudulent sale of the five per cent of Federal Government’s shares in Eleme Petrochemicals Company Limited.

Similarly, the House of Representatives also prevailed on President Goodluck Jonathan to sack Onagoruwa.

The demand for her sack by both chambers was predicated on the wholesome adoption of the recommendations of the Senate committee that had investigated the sale of public enterprises through the privatisation programme since 1999.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice-President on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Umar Sani, Tuesday, read: “The Director General of the Bureau for Public Enterprises (BPE) Ms. Bolanle Onagoruwa, has been relieved of her appointment with immediate effect.”

The president's spokesperson, Dr. Reuben Abati, had explained, that the president who has the power to hire and fire initially tarried when the legislators sought for the removal of both Onagoruwa and the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ms. Arunma Oteh.

But in a surprise move Tuesday, the vice-president’s office took her job away after she had served for two years.

“She is to hand over to the most senior director in the bureau, Mr. Benjamin Ezra Dikki, who is to hold the position in an acting capacity,” the statement said. The statement added: “Mr. President extends his sincere appreciation to Ms. Bolanle Onogoruwa for her services to the nation and wishes her the best in her future endeavours.”

Dikki was until his appointment as acting director general the Director of Industries and Services at the BPE.

He was born on December 30, 1958 and is a 1980 accounting graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. Dikki also holds an MBA from the same university and is a licensed stock broker.

The acting DG, who is from Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, joined the BPE as a director on December 1, 2004 and has served in many departments, starting out as the Director of Power and Communications.

He has also served as Director, Finance and Management Support, Director, Transport and Aviation, and Director Communications and Capital Market.

As Dikki takes over the helm at the BPE, the NCC yesterday announced the sack of Gwandu by the Federal Government.

Director, Public Affairs for NCC, Mr. Tony Ojobo, who broke the news of the sack to THISDAY, said the letter, which was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, took effect from November 9, 2012.

According to Ojobo, Gwandu was sacked for a proven case of gross insubordination to the current leadership of NCC.

“The board of NCC and the Ministry of Communications Technology investigated the allegations brought against NCC's leadership by Gwandu and found that they were false and unfounded and also discovered overwhelming insubordination by Gwandu,” Ojobo said.

He said Gwandu had alleged that the NCC sold the 450 MHz frequency band allegedly belonging to the police, to OpenSkys Limited, inspite of the commission’s explanation that it undertook the sale following laid down rules and due process.

NCC said the sale was not only in compliance with the Nigerian Communications Act, but also in full implementation of a presidential directive of July 5, 2007, but Gwandu had granted press interviews alleging double standards on the part of NCC, thereby discrediting the leadership of the NCC before the public.

Based on Gwandu’s allegations, the Ministry of Police Affairs had accused NCC of re-selling the spectrum to OpenSkys Limited, after it had been sold to the police, alleging that the re-sale had hindered the police commission from rolling out its security-based communications network.

Although the allegations were embarrassing for the NCC, the commission was unable to take any action against Gwandu, because it was investigating the allegations.

According to an inside source, Gwandu's grouse may not be unconnected with his long held desire to be appointed executive-vice chairman (EVC) of the NCC, a position he lost about two years ago when its former EVC, Ernest Ndukwe, stepped down.

Immediately after Ndukwe retired in 2010, Gwuandu was made acting EVC, but was replaced by a substantive EVC, Mr. Eugene Juwah.

Ever since then, Gwandu has not concealed his desire to displace Juwah.

The media was inundated with news about Nollywood actress, Uche Jombo Rodriguez going to the United States of America for a corrective eye surgery some weeks ago. She was even quoted in one of the reports to have said that the eye surgery was necessary because while she was a kid, she had a problem with the eye.

As a result, she was going to the US to do a surgery to further correcti the problem caused to the eye back then ("As a child, I had an accident while playing with an iron hanger as a gun and it accidentally got into my right eye. I had surgery then abroad, at the age of 9. This new surgery is more of cleaning and keeping up to date with the best eye surgery, when it was found out that it wasn't properly done the first time, and presently the doctors are correcting it,") This quote was what was reported that Uche said when she talked on her eye surgery news after she underwent the reported eye surgery.

But in a late turn-around, weeks after the news, Uche has openly spat fire like a dragon on the matter. The wife of Kenny Rodriguez went on twitter to show her anger while she reinstated that she is wonderfully made by God and as such, she won't do anything to alter her face or nose.

According what National Enquirer Magazine reported, the daughter of the executive governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Abiola Ajimobi, Bisola is at present enmeshed in an alleged murder controversy involving her ex-lover, Adeola Randoph who died early this year. Though there are rumours that the deceased, a staff of a company based in Abuja called-PetroEnergy and graduated from the Coventry University in the UK had an attack at home in the early hours of the fateful day and was rushed to the hospital where he later gave up the ghost, some have said Governor Ajimobi’s daughter and Personal Assistant might have some explanations to make.

We contacted Omoni Oboli who was on a retreat in Israel on Monday, November 5, 2012 and the actress confirmed getting an email where she was copied alongside some prominent names but denied dating a jeweller (names withheld) or having a relationship with the Governor.
