GOVERNOR DICKSON TRAINS TEACHERS ON ICT; SAYS COMPUTER LITERACY IS COMPULSORY FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS IN BAYELSA STATE.

By Sir John Idumange

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) (1948) provided robust inspiration for national efforts to promote legally guaranteed rights including the right to education. Since then the constitutions of most progressive nations have capitalized on Article 26 of the UDHR to provide universal, free and compulsory education for their citizens, including children. Accordingly, several summits and declarations have re-affirmed basic education as a right. Central among such declarations includes:
The Jomtien Declaration in Thailand 1990.
The Social Development Summit in Copenhagen 1996
The OAU Decade of Education in Africa 1997-2006.
The Beijing Conference on Women and Development 1999.
The Rio Summit on Sustainable Human Environment 1992. among several others.

GLOBALIZATION AND ALL ITS ACCOMPANIMENTS ARE DRIVEN BY THE INFORMATION SUPER HIGHWAY. IF PROPERLY DEPLOYED, ICT WILL LEVERAGE QUALITY EDUCATION IN BAYELSA STATE. THE GOVERNOR DECLARED A STATE OF EMERGENCY IN THE EDUCATION SECTOR; HE HAS TAKEN PRACTICAL STEPS TO DELIVER FREE EDUCATION. WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF ICT, HE HAS GOTTEN IT RIGHT. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
