Arrests Made In Barbaric Killing Of 4 UNIPORT Students.

Jungle Justice is simply out of the Question no matter the crime, its a truly sad
The police in Rivers State have detained some persons it said were involved in the lynching and killing of four students of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) on Friday.

The students, Lloyd, Ugonna, Tekana and Chidiaka, all males and believed to be in their 20s were alleged to have stolen mobile phones and computer laptops from off campus hostels accommodating students of the university. They were subsequently arrested by a local community watch group, brutally assaulted and clubbed to death before they were lighted.

Rivers State police spokesman, Mr. Ben Ugwuegbulam in a statement said 13 persons including the traditional head of Aluu clan where the barbaric act was committed have been taken into custody after investigators watched the video of the killing, which had since gone viral.

The police and the Rivers State Government, which held an emergency executive council meeting have urged against reprisal attacks on the community even as residents have started moving out for fear.

“The Rivers State police command unequivocally condemns the gruesome killing of four UNIPORT students on Friday by an irate mob from Aluu community. The command sympathizes with the families of the slain students and also appeals to them not to take the laws into their hands,” the police spokesman said.

“Students of UNIPORT are urged not to engage in any reprisal, as such can lead to chaos and anarchy. The command has commenced diligent investigation into the ugly incident.

“Amazing success has been recorded in that regard, as 13 persons, including the chief of the community, suspected to have been involved in the reprehensible and barbaric act, have been arrested, based on credible intelligence and video clips of the killings.

“The suspects are being interrogated by crack detectives from SCID (State Criminal Investigations Department). The Rivers police command is unwaveringly committed to protecting lives and property of Rivers people and will not rest on its oars, until the perpetrators of the horrendous act are not only arrested, but also brought to justice,” the police said in the statement.
