Bayelsa State Governor, Hon Seriake
Dickson says his administration will not waiver on its resolve to
deliver on its restoration agenda to the people of the state.
Governor Dickson gave the assurance
while speaking at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, shortly after
participating in the Independence Day Walk tagged “Walk for Peace and
Development.
The Governor said the event which was
part of activities lined up to mark the 16th anniversary of the creation
of Bayelsa State and 52nd celebration of nationhood was significant to
promote peace, social mobilization and integration of the people.
According to the Governor, the present
administration has recorded significant achievements within the short
period of six months in office and will not be deterred by the
machinations of detractors.
Governor Dickson also assured that the
major concern of his administration was to restore Bayelsa State to its
true glory. He urged Bayelsans to continue to lend support to
government and the people not to join the rumour mill.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for
Sports Development, Chief Mitema Obordor called on all Bayelsans to
embrace and promote peace wherever they find themselves.
Chief Obordor urged the people to use
the period of the celebration to reflect on things that will move the
state and country forward.
The Commissioner noted that the
relevance of the ‘walk’ could be viewed from the angle of sports which
goes beyond reaping health benefits, adding that it also draws attention
to the desirability of peace.
According to him, “peace is a desired
end. Peace is the absence of war or social conflict; it denotes
stability and understanding.”
Chief Obordor therefore solicited the
support of the people to sustain the prevailing peace to enable the
present administration achieve its laudable development agenda.
