Dynamites, machine guns found in 3 cars in Rivers

POLICE in Rivers State, at the weekend, recovered a cache of weapons from three vehicles hidden at a mechanic village in Ihugbo, along East-West Road, Ahoada, Rivers State, following what it described as an extensive intelligence operation.

The recovered weapons included two dynamites with detonators, explosives canes, two gas cylinders with welding accessories, two General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG) with 593 rounds of GPMG ammunition and eight AK–47 rifles with 1635 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and 57 magazines.

Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Frank Mba in a statement noted that the vehicles were impounded by the police and noted that efforts to track down the criminals were being intensified as other incriminating exhibits linking the perpetrators to the weapons were also recovered at the scene by police operatives.

He said the weapons were recovered on Friday and were to have been used in an aborted robbery attack targeted at one of the leading commercial banks in the state.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) MD Abubakar has commended the officers and men of the Rivers State police command for what he described as an impressive recovery.

Good job.
