SHOCKER AS COURT RESTRAINING ORDER THREATENS PDP CONVENTION

Again, another spanner has been thrown in the wheel of PDP's proposed Wednesday convention, as a Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from proceeding with its National Convention earlier fixed for Port Harcourt on August 17.Justice Okon Abang today issued an interim order directing the party not to proceed with the convention pending the determination of the suit by factional chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff challenging his removal.Ruling on an application by Sheriff’s counsel Adeniyi Akintola (SAN) to grant an interlocutory injunction restraining the caretaker committee of the party from organizing the convention, the judge said that the actions of members of the caretaker committee could be viewed as contempt of court. The judge observed that Ben Obi, who applied before him to be joined as an interested party, had gone to another Federal High Court in Port Harcourt for an ex parte order approving the convention.Further hearing has been fixed for tomorrow. Nigerians await to see if the infamous political party will surmount this yet again, like the proverbial cat with nine lives.
