Governor Dickson Re-assures on Restoration Agenda.

 

Bayelsa State Governor, Hon Seriake Dickson says his administration will not waiver on its resolve to deliver on its restoration agenda to the people of the state.

Governor Dickson gave the assurance while speaking at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, shortly after participating in the Independence Day Walk tagged “Walk for Peace and Development.

The Governor said the event which was part of activities lined up to mark the 16th anniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State and 52nd celebration of nationhood was significant to promote peace, social mobilization and integration of the people.

According to the Governor, the present administration has recorded significant achievements within the short period of six months in office and will not be deterred by the machinations of detractors.

Governor Dickson also assured that the major concern of his administration was to restore Bayelsa State to its true glory.   He urged Bayelsans to continue to lend support to government and the people not to join the rumour mill.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Sports Development, Chief Mitema Obordor called on all Bayelsans to embrace and promote peace wherever they find themselves.

Chief Obordor urged the people to use the period of the celebration to reflect on things that will move the state and country forward.

The Commissioner noted that the relevance of the ‘walk’ could be viewed from the angle of sports which goes beyond reaping health benefits, adding that it also draws attention to the desirability of peace.

According to him, “peace is a desired end. Peace is the absence of war or social conflict; it denotes stability and understanding.”

Chief Obordor therefore solicited the support of the people to sustain the prevailing peace to enable the present administration achieve its laudable development agenda.

Dicksons Back From Overseas Trip, Cautions Rumour-Mongers.

Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, yesterday returned from his trip abroad where he meet with investors and also took time off to get some deserved rest, having had a very hectic work schedule.

It will be recalled that while the governor was away, some enemies of the ongoing reforms in Bayelsa State orchestrated some wild rumours on the governor's alleged ill-health.

Ordinarily,Government wouldn't have joined issues with these faceless people who are clearly political detractors,jobbers that have lost out in the power equation in the state and who are desperately working hard to truncate the peace and development of our beloved state.

But Government is compelled to issue this statement to set the records straight and let Bayelsans know that the Governor is is hale and hearty. His trip to the United kingdom was not on health grounds but to further woo investors to the state as well as lay the foundation for the launch of Bayelsa Development Corporation's international office in London.

Governor Dickson is therefore calling on Bayelsans to be weary of this political jobbers who had held the state hostage in the past, while commending well meaning people of the state for their continued understanding and support for his government.

The governor, who empathises with the various communities affected by the flood, stated that his administration was doing all it can to faster track development in the state.

The State Chief Executive promised to carry out an on -the -spot assessment of the affected communities on Tuesday, next week to see things for himself.

He explained that, he had earlier directed the Deputy Governor to ensure the release of relief materials to the affected communities cushion the hardship being experienced by the people.

The governor said the problem of flooding is not peculiar to Bayelsa State. According to him, "this issue of flooding is not peculiar to Bayelsa State, it is a global phenomenon caused mainly by global warming and other issues related to the environment. You will recall that our government took early steps to address the issue of blocked drainages in Yenagoa and that was why we did not experience any form of flooding in Yenagoa metropolis, despite the heavy down pour experienced this year".

While thanking Bayelsans for their support, solidarity and prayers for his administration, he called on communities located along coast lines and those by river banks to be on the alert, assuring them that government has also put in place an effective monitoring device to enable it respond promptly to emergencies.
