Secondary School students have called for a shift in date of the gubernatorial election in Edo State scheduled to hold on Saturday, September 10 to another date as it clashed with their Mathematics examination also scheduled by the West African Examination Council for the same day.The students who stormed the Government House, Benin City with placards with various inscriptions said holding the examination and the poll same day would disenfranchise them. They students also said they would kick against any plan to be moved to other states for the Mathematics examination as planned by WAEC, adding that this would not only disorganise them but also put them at a disadvantage. Spokesman for the students, Iko Emmanuel Moses said “our position about the General Certificate Examination (GCE) in Edo State, the scheduled governorship election on the 10th of September, with a deep sense of regret and pains, we wish to express and oppose the disturbing circumstances surrounding the above examination of this year and its effect on our expected performance in the examination.“The plan to relocate us out of Edo State, our state to other regions to sit for the examination because of the September 10 election in Edo State as scheduled by INEC is an ill wind which will affect our chance to perform well in the examination. WEAR APC ARM BANDS,LOGOS OR GET SACKED EDO GOVT TELLS CIVIL SERVANTS......THIS IS A TRAGIC-PDP

The PDP has condemned the directive of the Edo State government to all civil servants in the state to wear APC arm bands and adorn their walls and tables in the office with the party’s posters and flags or risk being sacked. In a statement by the State Publicity Secretary, Mr Chris Nehikhare, the party said whereas, “Civil servants are supposed to be apolitical, the trend where they were ordered through text messages ostensibly from the Head of Service to immediately adorn the arm bands, paste posters and put the APC flag on their desks, ‘with immediate effect’ is a tragedy.“Although the text messages were also forwarded to local government employees in the state, indications are that they will not comply owing to the several months’ arrears of unpaid salaries.“Even the orders to the head of Service who was also said to have received orders to proceed to collect consignments of the arm bands, flags and posters of the APC candidate from the party secretariat along Airport road, Benin City, is pathetic as it shows a desperation on the part of APC government to win the September 10 elections at all costs”.A top civil servant in the Governor’s office (names withheld) who received his text message during a church service in Benin City, yesterday, complained that the civil service was being turned into a political arena, in a move that could kill morale.

BRITS ABHOR NIGERIANS AND WANT LESS OF THEM IN UK-YOUGOV SURVEY

There seems to be no love lost between Nigerians and their historical colonial masters Britain as a new survey shows that Nigeria is one of the countries the Brits would like to see less amount of immigration from.In a survey conducted by YouGov, Nigeria joins Turkey, Pakistan, and Romania as the countries the UK would be happy to see the back of and would want stricter regulations in place before any immigrant from these countries is let in. The statistic above shows Nigeria as the 3rd least most welcome nation to the United Kingdom. The reasons given were diverse but the most were criminal records, low skill set for the workplace and poor English proficiency. The company responsible for the survey, YouGov, is an international internet-based market research firm, headquartered in the UK, with operations in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. They aggregate the opinion of people especially in the UK about issues and event around the world. So it seems if there was an option to stop countries from getting into the UK, Nigeria will be pretty high on that list.

OUTRAGE IN BRASIL AS DILMA ROUSSEFF SUPPORTERS CLASH WITH POLICE OVER IMPEACHMENT....MOTION TO BAR HER FROM RECONTESTING FAILED

Supporters of former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff Wednesday night protested her impeachment by setting fires, damaging property and clashing with police in Brazil's largest city, Sao Paolo. Police lined the streets to curb the often violent demonstrations, which saw property vandalized and police vehicles damaged. Police fired tear gas at some supporters of the former leader in an attempt to quell the protests. While Brazil's first female president is out of a job, but not barred from the ballot if she wants to run again, a motion to bar her from holding any public office for the next eight years failed. Rousseff, 68, a former Marxist guerrilla, said earlier this week that she had committed no crime and said she was proud she'd been "faithful to her commitment to the nation. Michel Temer, Rousseff's former vice president who has been serving as interim president since her suspension in May, has been sworn in as President of Brazil and will serve out the remainder of her term.
